About Me
How I came to Ireland: I met my husband, who is Irish, in exactly the year 2000.He introduced me to his home country, that I have then come to love. My home country in the Baltic, is similar in many ways, with forests and mountainous landscapes. What's different about North West Mayo is the every changing landscape.Mountains reach down in to boggy plateaus. Rivers snake and cut their way through the land, on-wards relentlessly towards their beckoning sea home, meeting at majestic beaches and inlets carved into the craggy and rocky coastline. Trees sport thick bushy mosses and lichens as if they are being consumed and digested . The spring and summer landscape spills out a canopy of wild flowers, furze, rhododendron mosses, heather's and wild grasses which illuminate the land with multicolored , greens, browns, blues and rusty reds. The wind is the conductor of this orchestra of nature. Wind direction can change by the hour, and can swiftly change, from being a tender breeze to a screaming gale in a very short space of time. The landscape has little choice to obey and seems to move and sway back and forth as if to make peace with this intruder. Clouds race. Animals huddle down, the sea bristles and then as quickly, calm is restored. So goes an average day in Erris .
My works: After leaving school, I trained as a professional dress maker. I came to this life because I love design and I enjoy being creative. I progressed onto professional window design and decoration working full time in a large Florist shop , in charge of window design and flora presentations. On moving to Ireland I was keen to develop my creativity and I studied certificate level Photography in the GMIT Castlebar. I then progressed, again through the GMIT to qualify as a "Marine and Countryside" Guide for the Erris region . This newly found knowledge of the flora and fauna of the region has helped me so much to expand the creative potential of my works. My BogHoggets are a fusion of the sense of humour and the wildness that I have found in the area.
My works: My works can be viewed and purchased throughout the region , from exhibitions in Aras Inis Gluaire to being retailed in fine shops such as the Leaping Lizard in Westport , and now here in this portal.
Each of my pieces are hand made and when your purchase a piece, for a friend or loved one, you will do so, knowing that your are getting a unique piece, inspired by the lands and region that is Erris.
Thank You
